On the occasion of the engaging relational event Milano Photo week, in which photography,as an extraordinary language of contemporary art, takes the floor to give back to critics, collectors and the public, its deep, incisive, emerging and sensitive vision of the world , the two galleries c|e Contemporary, in Milan, and Vision QuesT 4 red contemporary photography, in Genoa, collaborate proposing each one its sensitive, representative, feminine subject.
c|e Contemporary presents an important selection of saturated photographs of pre-adolescent and adolescent women posing for the lebanese artist, naturalized in the USA, living in Boston. It is the gaze of a woman, an artist, a mother, a former teenager that is filtered by Rania Matar’s lens, who takes back the mirror of the world, a psyche in training, an environmental and cultural model, in this case both of the USA and the Middle East world, such as the female subject of pre-adolescence and adolescence. The bedroom, the posters on the wall, the casual or sophisticated , trendy clothes, the torn jeans on the knees, as the result of unspeakable imaginary adventures, the attitude in front of the lens, the hairstyle, the piercings, the tattoos, the isolation , the cellular-phone addiction, all symbols of rebellion to the system, to conventional behavior, to the institution of the family, which a young woman lives, roaring or in silence, in the complex process of growth and conquest of psychic and existential autonomy, internal of that formative and normalizing device that takes the name of society, moreover globalized society. They are works that reflect, in turn, the capacity for observation and interpretation of a living context full of signs and dreams of a subject caught in the sensitive and evolving stage of the rituals of transition from childhood to adulthood and in the progressive acquisition of awareness of becoming and being a woman today.
Vision QuesT 4 rosso contemporary photography, Genoa, presents with the photographer Malena Mazza an icon of the feminine that is the subject and object of desire, which is a body that does not cease to fragment itself in order to present itself in the most seductive phantasmagoria of fetishes, representing conditions and situations of the feminine that the more they cause enchantment and disturbance the more they become aesthetically algid and unattainable … In the range of these modes of representation, now explicit now subliminal, we can read remote subject, not for this less incisively and widely, like violence, destabilization, desubjectivization, de-territorialization. They are exercised, even today, on women of different ethnic, cultural, confessional belonging, from a male model of a western mass society.
