Leyla GOORMAGHTIGH

(born in Geneva in 1976, from a Belgian father and an Iranian mother, she lives and works in Bern) she is a visual artist who represents, with graphite and ink drawing and with watercolor, assemblage of elements taken from reality, from the imagination, from dream activity, from memory archives. Forms invented in abstract spaces swim, as in a slow dance, in the emptiness of a white sheet, they hybridize with organic elements such as leaves or fur, with elements taken from reality like wood. The artist does not cease to question perspective, putting shifts from the two-dimension to the three-dimensional. Her work reproduces the path of the mind in making incompatible data legible and not present in the archives of the codified and mnemonically deposited forms. Also of literary training, the artist often refers to narrative devices, frequented by the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges, which activate worlds of parallel realities, temporal shifts, subjects and objects, even daily, of mysterious origin.
